Agnello palace: a historical baronial residence of Siculiana

The Agnello Palace is a historic 18th century sicilian baronial dwelling.
It is located in the historic center of Siculiana, not far from the Sanctuary of SS. Crucifix and from Piazza Umberto I. The Angello family arrived in Siculiana in 1797 with Stefano, son of Baron Francesco di Cefalù, and although they had never invested the Sicilian barony, they certainly influenced the course of history. The Agnello palace is in excellent condition, thanks to its large stone structure. In the summer of 1964, due to the lack of hotels, the film crew of the film "Seduced and Abandoned" by Pietro Germi, whose female protagonist was Monica Vitti, was housed in the building. During the film's scenes, the actress gave up her starring role and was later replaced by young Stefania Sandrelli, who took her part. The Agnello palace was also home to the "Associazione Amici della Musica" (Friends of Music Association) and in the seventies guests were opera singers and orchestras of international renown.
The last baron, Francesco Agnello, was a great lover of music and culture, and in this palace were written parts of the famous book Il Gattopardo by Tomasi Di Lampedusa, a dear friend of the baron. He has organized numerous concerts with promising and famous musicians, who have all come to live in this apartment during their stays.
